Components are suddenly disappearing from the pages! Yet another case for the Sitecore dinosaurs.

Friends, it’s Friday, and the weekend is almost upon us 🙂

Today’s post will be about how components started disappearing from the pages. This was indeed a scary moment 😨

Yet another case for the Sitecore dinosaurs 🦖

Let me explain 🙂

Suddenly components started to disappear from the pages. (It was a specific rendering that was used on several pages). My first thought was that someone had removed the components from the pages.

So I started to look at the pages(in Sitecore) that were using that specific rendering, but no. The rendering was there with datasource and all. Hmm…

Perhaps someone had unpublished it? I looked in the web db, and it was all there! And now, to the scary stuff, it would not even appear in the Experience editor. Scary!

Ok, so it must be something with the NextJS app. Right?

So I checked one of our other environments that was using the same NextJs app. And guess what? The components were all there, and everything worked fine. I was really confused…

Ok, back to the basics. I started to compare the rendering with the working rendering(from the other environment). And finally… I found the culprit, a tiny little checkbox.

Do you see the little guy? Render as HTML

That was it! Of course, it would not work. We want it all to be JSON, not HTML! Someone had checked the checkbox and published it.

After unchecking the checkbox and publishing the rendering, all components were back again 🙂

That’s all for now folks 😊
